Haidong Gumdo - Korean Sword
Haidong Gumdo is a sword art drawing from battlefield tactics and techniques to build mental, physical, and spiritual development. Students learn pre-arranged forms, moves, combat drills, and meditation, as well as develop honor, discipline, and control. Beginners use wooden training swords.
At higher levels of training, students will have the chance to practice test-cutting with steel blades, along with free sparring using special protective gear.
Haidong Gumdo itself is a reconstruction of ancient Korean swordsmanship, based upon the techniques in other Korean martial arts as Gicheon and Shim Gumdo, as well as techniques derived from ancient martial arts manuals such as the Muyedobotongji.
Gumdo as we know it today is attributed to the work of Masters Na Ha Nil and Kim Jeong-Ho, President of the World Haidong Gumdo Federation.
At Blue Mountain Martial Arts, we bring a dedicated and fulfilling study of Gumdo to the Ellicott City area. We would be honored for you to join us. Call or email for information on class times, and how to get started.
All of our classes are ASL friendly for the deaf and hard of hearing communities.
